Being at the same time a sport, a leisurely pastime and a means of transport, rollerblading is above all a comprehensive sport which requires technical skill, balance and resistance to avoid falling down!

Benefits of roller blading

  • Develops balance, flexibility and fast reflexes.
  • Improves ones endurance and heartrate.
  • Tones up the buttocks, the quadriceps and the calves.
  • Softens up the joints.
  • Improves balance, centre of gravity.
  • Gives a feeling of freedom, lightness.

Disadvantages in rollerblading

  • At the neurological level:
    • Balance disorders,
    • Dizziness.
  • Locomotor system problems.
  • Cardiovascular disorders.

Pathologies

  • Traumatic pathologies related to falls:
    • Contusions to the knees, wrists, hands, shoulders;
    • Sprains, fractures;
    • Cranial and dorsal trauma
    • Tendinitis.

On a practical level

  • Start by taking courses to acquire the basic concepts.
  • Use decent equipment: helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, gloves, wrist pads: roller blading is a sport where falls are inevitable.
  • Adapt your skates to your skill level and comfort.
  • If you make long excursions, don't forget to take slow acting sugars and hydrate yourself as often as possible.
  • Do some stretching exercises before and after the effort, to avoid strains and aches.

Various uses of rollerblading

  • You can practice rollerblading even by other sports:
    • Acrobatic rollerblading: jumping, slaloms, acrobatics, jumping over obstacles;
    • Rollerblade race: on or off-road;
    • Ice or field hockey.
